Some books can be completed in as little as a month, while others can take up to a year to compile. Most of your time will be spent organizing your thoughts, perusing photographs, journals, and archives, and asking your family and friends what they would like you to include in your story. Some people enjoy writing a first draft to dial in timelines and themes. Your life is full and kaleidoscopic; take pride in how it presents, and enjoy the process, however long it takes. Joy's here to keep you on track, provide guidance, and get this to the finish line as quickly and comprehensively as possible.
What is the end product of My Legacy Work?
The basic end product of My Legacy Work is a Google, Word, or PDF document that showcases a comprehensive, chapter-form book written in the first-person voice. The final length of the book depends on how many words you share in our interviews. If you would like to turn this manuscript into a hard- or soft-cover booklet or coffee table book, Joy works with a team of professional graphic designers to create whatever you have in mind. Options can be discussed at any point in the process.
Are the interviews recorded?
Yes. All interviews are recorded to ensure accuracy. You can receive copies of these recordings by request. Joy uses these recordings to transcribe and sort your words into concise, chronological thoughts. At the end of our time together, Joy will delete these recordings to protect your privacy.
What if I want to write my own story?
Wootwoot!! Joy is convinced everyone can write their own story and loves working with people who are excited to try. Creating a first draft of your story is an excellent place to start! Whether you're a seasoned writer or simply curious about the craft, Joy is happy to work with you in the editing process, fine-tuning grammar and punctuation, fact-checking, and helping you identify missing plot points.

Joy provides a free, 30-minute discovery call to answer any questions and make sure you understand the scope of the process. Please note that Joy's fees do not include printing costs should you decide you want to turn your manuscript into a physical book. If you choose to make this into a book, the final cost depends on materials and graphic designer time. Options can be discussed at any point in the process.
